The Charnwood Forest Railway was incorporated under an act of 16th July 1874. Under an agreement dated 12th May 1881, the line was worked by London and North Western Railway Company in return for 50% of the receipts.
During construction of the line a large amount of stock was irregularly issued and in November 1883, on petition of contractor and other creditors, the line was placed in hands of the Receivers, apparently between December 1883 and April 1884.
At a meeting held on 23rd August 1907 directors were re-appointed. Receivers managed the company until 1st July 1909 on which date directors took control.
Under the London Midland and Scottish Railway Absorption (No.1) Scheme 1923 dated 14th July 1923, Charnwood Forest Railway Company was vested in the London Midland and Scottish Railway Company as from 1st July 1923.
