The Carmarthenshire Railway was Incorporated under act of 3rd June 1802.

Under Llanelly & Mynydd Mawr Railway Act of 19th July 1875, Llanelly & Mynydd Mawr Railway was incorporated for purpose of constructing railway along course of Carmarthenshire Railway or Tramroad which had become disused and tramplates removed. The new company was to purchase undertaking of Tramroad Company and when its affairs had been wound up Carmarthenshire Railway or Tramroad Company was to be dissolved.

Llanelly & Mynydd Mawr Railway Company was absorbed into Great Western Railway Company as from 1st January 1923 under Great Western Railway (Western Group) Preliminary Absorption Scheme (No.3) 1922, dated 19th January 1923.
