Sir Cecil Syers, the United Kingdom High Commissioner in Ceylon was the chief British represenatative at the inauguration ceremony held in Male, the capital of the new Republic of the Maldives, and signed the new treaty between the United Kingdom and the Republic of the Maldives. [This] picture [shows] Sir Cecil Syers, the United Kingdom High Commissioner in Ceylon congratulating Mr Amin Didi, President of the Republic of the Maldives, after the signing of a new treaty between their two Governments..'.
