The Brandling Junction Railway Company was incorporated under the Brandling Junction Railway Act of 7th September 1835. On 13th August 1844, the undertaking was purchased by George Hudson in his own name, but on 16th August 1844 he transferred the purchase to Newcastle and Darlington Junction Railway Company. This company took possession as from 1st September 1844, though purchase was not legalised until an act of 1845.
