The Brackenhill Light Railway Company was incorporated on 19th March 1901 by the Light Railways Act of 1896. Under this act, the line was worked by North Eastern Railway Company.

Under the London and North Eastern Railway Absorption (No.1) Scheme of 29th June 1923, the company was dissolved and vested in the London and North Eastern Railway Company as from 1st January 1923.
