The Bourton-on-the-Water Railway Company was incorporated under the Bourton- on-the-Water-Railway Act 14th June 1860. In 1874, the company amalgamated with the Great Western Railway as from 1st February, by virtue of the Great Western Railway Act of 27th June 1870.
