The Blackpool Railway Company was incorporated under the Blackpool Railway Company Act of 7th August 1884.
On 21st October 1892, the Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway Company entered into an agreement to work the line at 55% of gross receipts. The Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway Company was also empowered by a railway act of 1893 to appoint four directors of the Blackpool Railway Company.
In March 1901, the Board of Directors of Great Central Railway Company referred to the abandonment of the Blackpool Railway Company.
