The Bedale and Leyburn Railway Company was incorporated under the Bedale and Leyburn Railway Company Act of 4th August 1853.
Under the North Eastern and Bedale and Leyburn railway companies Amalgamation Act of 8th August 1859, the Bedale and Leyburn Railway Company was vested in the North Eastern Railway Company.
