The Ashburton, Newton and South Devon Junction Railway Company was incorporated on 27th July 1846, and leased to the South Devon Railway Company in 1847 for 7 years. The company was established to construct railway lines in and around Ashburton and Newton in south Devon.
Owing to depression in trade, at the half-yearly meeting of 31st December, 1849 it was decided to vest the powers of dissolution in the company's shareholders.
