The Abbotsbury Railway Company was incorporated under Abbotsbury Railway Act on 6th August 1877, to construct various railway lines to and from Abbotsbury in Dorset.

In August 1896, the company was vested in the Great Western Railway Company by virtue of Great Western Railway (Additional Powers) Act 7th August 1896.
