Administrative / biographical background

The bulk of the transcripts in this series were made by M Armand Baschet from 1870 until his death in 1886, and arise from his engagement by the Public Record Office to undertake research for material relating to Great Britain and Ireland in the National Archives and Public Libraries in Paris.

The work remained largely in abeyance until 1914 when it was resumed by M Leon Bogaert. Following his death in 1927 it was continued by his daughter, Mlle L Bogaert.

Publication note(s)
For M Baschet's reports on the progress of his work, see various references in deputy keeper's reports numbers 36-47 (1875-1886). Some of these transcripts are calendared in Letters and Papers, Foreign and Domestic, of the Reign of Henry VIII, ed J S Brewer, J Gairdner and R H Brodie (London, 1862-1930).
