This collection consists of correspondence and notes compiled by Major-General Godfrey Basil Mundy, in preparation for his biography of Admiral Lord Rodney which first appeared in 1826 and was subsequently reprinted in 1830.
Included in the correspondence addressed to General Mundy are letters from Sir Gilbert Blane, physician to Lord Rodney's fleet, and, by 1830, an octogenarian looking back on a long friendship with the Admiral. Particular attention is given to events around the time of Rodney's most famous victory, the Battle of the Saints, in April 1782 and the unusual tactics employed by the Admiral during the battle. The papers also include several drafts for the biography and a large number of copied letters: General Mundy's two volume biography is to a great extent made up of original correspondence.
By subject and is approximately chronological.
F Mundy, 1995-1995
General Mundy was Lord Rodney's first biographer and his son-in-law marrying his youngest daughter Sarah Brydges, in 1801.
