This series contains papers relating to Stephen Shipley Wilson's period of service in the Ministry of Transport. It includes personal notes on the organisation of British ports during the winter of 1940-1941, and on the Transport Bill, 1947, documenting events that took place when Wilson was an assistant secretary in the Ministry of Transport.
He was appointed Keeper of Public Records in 1960 and the series also contains his recollections of his time as Keeper, 1960-1966.

Stephen Shipley Wilson joined the Public Record Office as an assistant keeper in November 1928. He transferred to the Ministry of Transport as an assistant principal in May 1929 and served subsequently in the Ministry of Supply and as Secretary of the Iron and Steel Corporation and the Iron and Steel Holding and Realization Company, before returning to the Public Record Office as Keeper in 1960. He retired in 1966.
