Description

This collection consists in the main of the official papers of Sir John Popham when he was Attorney General (1581-592). There are also some papers from his time as Chief Justice of the King's Bench (June 1592-June 1607). They include drafts of letters patent and indentures, duly examined and certified by him, particulars for leases and miscellaneous documents.

A few documents survive from his tenure of the chief justiceship of England (1592 -1607). There are also a few family papers.
