Description

These are mainly the private and official papers of the fourth Earl of Carnarvon, who was Secretary of State for the Colonies from 1866 to 1867 and from 1874 to 1878, and who held other ministerial posts. The papers relate largely to colonial matters but also to affairs in Ireland, Turkey, Russia and Egypt.

Separated material

A further collection of Carnarvon papers was acquired by the British Library in 1978.
