This is the main series of Public Record Office correspondence, dealing with all the department's functions down to 1955, though there are one of two papers of later date. Matters dealt with include the transfer and deposit of records and their availability to the public; office publications, and domestic matters such as staffing and accommodation.
Between 1836 to 1838 the papers concern the administration of the record service prior to the establishment of the Public Record Office.
The series also contains a few papers of Lord Romilly and Lord Langdale as Masters of the Rolls, and of W H Black, an assistant keeper of the records from 1841 to 1853.
From 1836 to 1930 the arrangement is chronological; from 1931 by subject files.
This series contains a single stray of the OE series more of which is in LRRO 36
