PRIS 10
1697-1862
Miscellaneous books relating to the Queen's Prison and its predecessors. Many of the books are of uncertain provenance owing to inadequate marking when the records of the three earlier institutions were placed together in 1842.
The series includes the following:
day rule books (function unclear, but listing names of prisoners, some in receipt of regular money payments), most probably relating to the Fleet Prison
The prisoners' commitment numbers or dates of discharge can be used to trace records in other series.
The gap in the habeas corpus books between 1759 and 1779 is probably owing to destruction during the Gordon Riots in 1780.
