The Committee of Enquiry into the Law and Practice Relating to Charitable Trusts was appointed by the Prime Minister in January 1950 with the Rt Hon Lord Nathan as chairperson. The committee was to consider and report on the changes in the law and practice (except in regard to taxation) relating to charitable trusts in England and Wales that would be necessary to enable maximum benefit to the community to be derived from them.
The committee's report, which was published in 1952, was broadly accepted by the government and formed the basis of the Charities Act 1960
