Description

Includes files on the employment of women and children, absenteeism, training, disputes and strikes, wages and conditions of work, holidays, non-union workers in mines, clerical staffs and pit head baths. Also contained are some papers relating to metalliferous and other mining.

Before 1920 these are mainly records of the Industrial Department of the Home Office and the Coal Mines Department of the Board of Trade (BT). After this they are files of the Mines Department until 1942, thereafter of the Ministry of Fuel and Power.
