In 1964 the Anti-Locust Research Centre (ALRC) became a Scientific Unit of the Ministry of Overseas Development. In 1971, with an expanded remit, it became the Centre for Overseas Pest Research (COPR). In 1983 it amalgamated with the Tropical Products Institute (TPI) to form the Tropical Development and Research Institute (TDRI).
