As a Department within the Ministry of Overseas Development, the Investment and Crown Agents Department was created in 1976 to administer Central Government finance, policy and relations with the Crown Agents and the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) and oversee their business and investments interests in developing countries. They were also responsible for advice and liaison with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Department of Trade and Industry and UK private companies and organisations on business and investment opportunities in developing countries.
