Folios 304-307. Letter to John Rolle [MP for Devon] from George Winne, Mayor of Plymouth, enclosing a letter regarding Maria Newman, and asking Rolle to renew his efforts and to ensure that any future orders carried her correct name. Enclosed is a letter of 26 May to Winne from William Adams, Keeper of Gosport Bridewell [Hampshire], reporting the refusal of the Royal Admiral's captain to take Newman on board as he was 4 convicts over complement, and stating that Sir John Carter had approved his custody of Newman until the Home Secretary's instructions had been received.
