Folios 280-282. Letter from W Heyrick, Town Clerk of Leicester, reporting riots on 3 successive evenings at the high price of meat, the helplessness of the civil power to resist the mob on the first occasion but the success of the peace officers in dispersing the rioters and taking prisoners thereafter. A troop of the Blues had now arrived from Coventry but the mayor would only call on them in case of necessity. Heyrick claimed that there was no cause for complaint at the availability or price of meat and saw the disturbances as being imported from Nottingham by the connection between stockingmakers in the 2 towns.
