Description

Folios 261-264B. Letter from Walter Patterson in the Fleet Prison explaining the purpose of the enclosed petition as being to enable him to present evidence in mitigation of his apparent obstruction of the appointment of Governor Fanning. Enclosed is a petition to the king from Patterson, late Governor and Lieutenant Governor of St John's Island [later Prince Edward Island], seeking an opportunity to clear his name in respect of events occurring in 1787, as his removal from office had deprived him of the right to put his case to the Privy Council at that time.
