Description

Folio 384-385. Memorandum recording that private letters had been sent to the commanding officers of troops at Winchester [Hampshire], Salisbury, Devizes, Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon [Wiltshire], Taunton and Sherborne [Somerset], instructing them to be ready to assist the civil magistrates, especially those at Bristol, if required. Similar orders had been given in respect of troops quartered at Manchester and Liverpool [Lancashire], York, Malton, Whitby and Scarborough [Yorkshire] in case of disturbances in the North of England.
