The National STEM Centre leads the government's STEM Programme (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), bringing together business, industry, charitable organisations, professional bodies and others with an interest in STEM education to facilitate closer collaboration and more effective support for schools and colleges. The National STEM Centre opened in 2009, funded by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation and the Department for Children Schools and Families (DCSF). It is housed in an extension to the National Science Learning Centre on the University of York campus. Ultimately, the Centre plans to house the UK's largest collection of STEM teaching resources and to provide teachers of STEM subjects with the ability to access a wide range of support materials online and when visiting the Centre.
