Alpha.gov.uk is an experimental prototype of a single UK Government website. It was developed in under three months by a small team within the Government Digital Service and was launched by the Cabinet Office in May 2011 to be open for public comment for two months in order to judge the feasibility of a single domain for UK Government web services.
