The National Centre for Languages (CILT) is the Government's recognised centre of expertise on languages. The organisation's mission is to promote a greater capability in languages amongst all sectors of the UK population. CILT was formed in 2003 through the merger of the Centre for Information on Language Teaching and Research and the Languages National Training Organisation. On 7 April 2011, CILT merged with the education charity CfBT Education Trust.
