<p>Correspondence [in English and German] between the Property Control Section of the Finance branch of the Land Commissioner's Office and Mr Joachim Wertheim, resident in Frankfurt, regarding restitution of property owned by his cousin Mrs Margot Green née Redlich informing Mr Wertheim that the office was 'not in a position to assist you in this matter as the approval of cessions of any kind is not within the jurisdiction of this Section', dated March 1951. The nature of the property contained in the vans bequeathed to her by her first husband, Dr Honigbaum, is not specified. </p> <p>Two letters from the Internal Restitution Section in London to the Senior Property Control Officer in Hamburg regarding the payment of custodians' expenses, which should have been met before any property subject to a restitution claim could be released, and the decisions by the Board of Review regarding a restitution request by Dr Ernst Framhein [not specified], dated March 1951. </p> <p>Correspondence from Carlos Ramón Remmer de la Cruz, a Cuban citizen resident in Argentina since the 1930s, to the Military Government and the Deutsche Suedamerikanische Bank in Hamburg requesting the restitution of RM 27,000 in bonds which had been deposited as his property in the bank, dated March 1951. </p> <p>Correspondence dated March 1951 between the Senior Finance Officer in Kiel and the Internal Restitution Section in London regarding out-of-date claims - as in the case of Karl Kern, who had registered his claim only by a letter dated November 1949. According to Military Government regulations, 'any notification, however informal, would be accepted' as filing of a claim. </p> <p>Further correspondence between the Berlin Senate and the Finance branch of the Property Control Section within the Land Commissioner's Office on the matter of the Herold publishing house in Berlin, dated March 1951 On 8 May 1945 all shares in the business of the Herold Verlagsanstalt GmbH were owned by the Eher-Verlag, which was dissolved as a Nazi organisation on the strength of Control Council Law No 2 The Berliner Kommission fuer Ansprueche auf Vermoegenswerte however decided that the Herold publishing house itself 'did not pursue any Nazistic aims and, therefore, was not dissolved'. All Herold shares were transferred to the Land Berlin, a transaction approved by the British Military Government of Berlin in November 1950. The Herold Verlaganstalt had consequently not ceased to exists, as the Berlin Senate pointed out that 'in view of the fact that the above company was no Nazi organization, it was unjust under Law No 52 to place its property under control' and requested the release of its property. A copy of the decision taken by the Berliner Kommission on 1 December 1950 is enclosed. </p> <p>Correspondence between the Property Control Section and Mr Franz Schilling, resident in Hamburg, informing him of the impossibility of their taking any action on the matter of Chilean Consul Enrique Foelsch's parents works of Christian welfare in Berlin, and the 'dotation [sic] Christliches Kellnerheim [Christian Waiters' Home]', founded by his mother in Hamburg, dated February-March 1951 Refers to the misappropriation [the 'international and interconfessional' character of the welfare institutions was changed] and eventual ban of the charity set up by Foelsch's parents and the dismissal of two of its Jewish employees. </p> <p>Correspondence between the Property Control Section and the Internal Restitution Section within the Chancery enclosing a copy of the Board of Review decisions of the Landesamt fuer Vermoegenskontrolle on the case of Dr Framheim [not specified], dated February-March 1951. </p> <p>Letter from the Internal Restitution Section in London and the Senior Property Control Officer in Hamburg regarding opposition to Law 59, which in a court case dealing with restitution had been described by the defendant's lawyer as an 'unjust and unfair law created by the Occupying Authorities which needs adjustment under all circumstances', thereby underlining widespread dissatisfaction towards this law within the German Federal Republic, dated February 1951. </p> <p>Two letters from the Senior Control Officer at the Property Control Section and the Landesamt fuer Vermoegenskontrolle in Hamburg regarding two claims for restitution of property [not specified] situated in Hamburg and owned in the first case by Mr Siegfried Benscher, Tel Aviv, and contested by A Jovishoff, Vina [sic] del Mar, and by, in the second case, Demmler, Hattingen, Ruhr, dated February 1951. </p> <p>Correspondence between the Senior Finance Officer and the Senior Property Control Officer regarding restitution claims to property [not specified] situated in Hamburg and owned by Mr Bescher, who had been forced to dispose of it under Nazi pressure, dated February 1951. </p> <p>Letter from the Landeszentralbank der Hansestadt Hamburg to the Property Control Section of the Finance branch of the Commissioner's Office in Hamburg regarding the 'de-blocking of the property' of the Jacob Kaltenbach heirs, dated February 1951. </p> <p>Correspondence between the Finanzbehoerde of the Landesamt fuer Vermoegenskontrolle and the Property Control Section of the Finance branch within the Commissioner's Office in Hamburg regarding the conference of the heads of the German Property Control Offices of the British Zone to be held at the General Claims Office in Bad Nenndorf on 7 February 1951 and which was supposed to be attended by Mr Kelly [not specified], enclosing a translation of suggestions for the conference's agenda, dated February 1951. </p> <p>Further correspondence between the Landeszentralbank and the Property Control Section on the case of Jacob Kaltenbach's heirs, enclosing a translation of the decision of the Restitution Office 'for the de-blocking of their property within this Bank's area of your attention', dated January 1951 In this 'restitution affair of the Stiftung Christliches Kellnerheim' in Hamburg the trusteeship for the real estate in question as well as for the hotel managed by five of the Kaltenbach heirs was annulled and a settlement was imposed to compensate the claimants. </p> <p>Letter from the Property Control Section to the Wiedergutmachungsamt of the Landgericht of the Hansestadt Hamburg regarding the restitution of property ['a private dwelling house' and 'a business'] owned by Herman and Alma Hammerschlag, dated January 1951 Enclosed is a letter from the attorneys Stern and Geffen, Cape Town, in support of their clients' claim, dated December 1950. </p>
