Description

Petition of John [Vesey] archbishop of Tuam. Seized in fee of manor of Togher and Lehincy. Annexed schedule (ff. 215-6) lists both lands already part of manor and lands which would greatly enlarge it if added to it. Lands are chiefly in Mayo and Galway, largely populated by papists. Has planted protestants in latter lands. Mayo is large county but has only one borough which sends MPs to parliament. Petitions erecting and enlarging manor into new manor of Hollymount and creating same as parliamentary borough, seeking conditions of letters patent concerning manor, corporation and borough of Blessington, Co. Wicklow. Granted to Michael [Boyle] archbishop of Dublin by Charles II [in same hand as SP 63/369 ff. 217-218]. ff. 213-216
