Description

Edward Southwell [chief secretary] to [William Legge] earl of Dartmouth [secretary of state] Encloses letter from [John Mason], mayor of Waterford, to [Sir Constantine Phipps, lord chancellor, and John Vesey, archbishop of Tuam] lord justice: giving account that Dutch ship ready to sail there was threatened by French privateer waiting to follow. Lord justice referred matter to [James Butler] duke of Ormonde [lord lieutenant] as they thought they had no power over foreign ships. Dated at Spring Garden [London]. ff. 199, 202
