Description

Memorial of Narcissus [Marsh, archbishop of] Armagh to [Sir Constantine Phipps, lord chancellor, and John Vesey, archbishop of Tuam, lord justice]: responds to lord justice's directions of [James Butler] duke of Ormonde, lord lieutenant, for alterations to certain forms of prayers for solemn occasions and for chief governor of Ireland. With advice of archbishops of Dublin [William King] and Cashel [William Palliser] and bishops of Meath [William Moreton], Kildare [Welbore Ellis], Down [Edward Smyth] and Ossory [John Hartstonge] slightly revised forms for 29 May [restoration], 5 November [gunpowder plot] and 30 Jan [execution of Charles I] in line with form now used in England. More drastic revision to 23 October [anniversary of 1641 rebellion], which is peculiar to Ireland. f. 177
