Description

Examinations taken before James Dennis, sovereign of Kinsale and JP, against Francois de Treanna. Witnesses James Perrin of Kinsale, peruke-maker, and his wife Mary claim that at their house de Treanna, master of a French vessel, told James that 'he was damned and all other protestants', and immediately drank a health to the right heir to the crown of England James III, who was called the pretender and Chevalier de St George. He also said that protestants did not know what they were doing when they broke their army, for he would take Ireland with 20,000 men, adding that he had murdered and cut throats of several protestants in Ireland, for he was at sieges of Bandon and Castle Martyr, and hoped to have opportunity of doing same again.
