Description

Shrewsbury to Bolingbroke: yesterday received, and delivered to them, queen's answers to addresses of both houses. Lords' order returning thanks enclosed [SP 63/369 ff. 41-2]; commons voted address of thanks. Yesterday both houses of convocation attended me with the three addresses enclosed to queen, about [Sir Constantine Phipps] lord chancellor and myself and my answer [f39-40]. Whole commons afterwards brought enclosed address against lord chancellor [f35-6]. Last night held council over both lords and commons seeking to see papers relating to Dublin elections, and particularly the representation of the council. Today commons dealt with city [Dublin] business and came to resolutions condemning lord chancellor. Went today and passed Money bill. Both houses expected to adjourn tomorrow for some time. Given hostility between them, seeks royal permission to prorogue them if I cannot bring them to a better temper during recess. Dated at Dublin Castle. ff. 43-46
