Grounds for clemency: previous good honest character, called respectable merchants for character witnesses at their trial, severe sentence to serve as example, good conduct in prison, wife and child have no support, father can provide employment when released, only implicated because knew Scantlebury who was mate on ship from where iron stolen. Initial sentence: 18 months imprisonment. Annotated: negative. NO 26
