1 individual petition (Elizabeth O'Neill, the prisoner's mother) and 1 collective petition with testimonial (6 people) on behalf of Francis O'Neill [Francis O'Neale] convicted at Lancaster Quarter Sessions Salford in October 1829 for stealing from Mr Fish. Gaoler's report: bad character, convicted before. Grounds for clemency: mistaken identity because prisoner always wore white hat and blue coat on Sundays and one of robbers wore same clothing, tried with 2 other prisoners Francis McCan and Thomas Ingham who swore O'Neill innocent, 5 to 6 respectable people can testify prisoner was not out of his house when robbery committed, respectable family background, prisoner chief support for widowed mother. Initial sentence: 14 years transportation. Annotated: nil. NO 20
