1 collective petition (4 magistrates from the Isle of Ely) on behalf of James Martineau convicted at Ely Assizes on 16 August 1828 for assault with intent to commit a rape against Elizabeth Martineau, his daughter. There is a certificate from William Wales, surgeon of the prison, confirming prisoner's poor state of health. Grounds for clemency: prisoner is 78 years old; in such poor health he is unlikely to survive imprisonment. Initial sentence: 2 years imprisonment with hard labour. Annotated: to be discharged 10 February, answered and report prepared 11 February 1830. NO 14
