1 individual petition (Mr Maberley) on behalf of David Lilley convicted at the Old Bailey in January 1830 for stealing 2 bottles of wine. There are 2 letters from the prisoner to his wife asking her to let his brothers know his situation and to send him more clothing. There is a note from the Police Office at Marylebone explaining the letters were found on a woman named Lilley now committed to Newgate prison. It is also annotated: 'this man is regular draysman - he was convicted of stealing trunks of clothing from a stagecoach.' Gaoler's report: not known here, ordered to hulks. Grounds for clemency: whether the coachman's evidence was reliable, sentence too severe. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Annotated: nil. NO 13
