1 collective petition (25 people from Lane End, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire) with accompanying letter from Sir Oswald Mosley on behalf of Jesse Lowe convicted with Joseph Ball at Stafford Quarter Sessions in January 1830 for stealing silk, property of Jonathan Lowe Chetham and John Robinson of Lane End. There is a letter from Charles Adderley, the committing magistrate, to Sir Oswald Mosley saying that the prisoner has been before him 3 to 4 times for misconduct but he would not oppose the remission of his sentence to service in the penitentiary. Gaoler's report: bad character, connected with the Pottery Gang of thieves. Grounds for clemency: honest industrious parents with 16 children, father served as trumpeter with the Newcastle Troop and respected by officers, prisoner only 18 years old. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Annotated: too bad character for penitentiary. NO 11
