This series consists of Ministry of Pensions case files of war disability pension awards for pensionable service during the Second World War.
The files concern men and officers serving in the Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, Royal Marines, mercantile marine and home guard as well as widows and dependents. It also includes some files concerning servicemen or non-combatants who were prisoners of war in the Far East.
The files contain medical records, accounts of how and where illnesses, injuries, disabilities and fatalities occurred and some individuals' personal accounts of incidents and events. Conduct sheets are included recording place of birth, age, names of parents and siblings, religion, physical attributes, material and parental status.
