This series consists of papers of the Parliamentary Secretary (National Insurance) relating mainly to legislation on national assistance, national insurance and family allowances and to graduated pension schemes and earnings-related short-term benefits.

The series includes papers on a variety of topics including benefit increases and selective employment tax.

The two earliest files and some of the later ones come from the private office of the parliamentary secretary at the Ministry of National Insurance and at the Ministry of Social Security respectively.
