The Central Advisory Committee on War Pensions is constituted under Section 3 of the War Pensions Act 1921 as amended by Section 9 of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970. Its purpose is to "consider such matters as may be put before them by the Minister for their advice".
The constitution of the committee provided that it should meet at such times as the minister may determine. It did not meet between 1928 and 1939. The committee was reconvened in November 1939 shortly after the outbreak of the Second World War.
The committee consisted of officers of the Department of Health and Social Security and predecessors, (local and central), ex-servicemen and representatives of War Pensions Committees throughout the United Kingdom.
