Tristan da Cunha flag used by Jonathan Lambert, an American who went to the island of Tristan da Cunha in the South Atlantic in 1810 to establish an independent settlement. He returned to America in 1812 leaving his man Tomaso Curry on the island. The British Navy occupied the island in 1816 and the flag was sent to the Admiralty with a letter from Rear Admiral Sir Pulteney Malcolm dated 26 January 1817 with a declaration by Curry that it had never been officially flown.
