Description

Medical and surgical journal of the convict ship Nile for 15 June to 15 October 1850 by John Kidd, Surgeon, during which time the said ship was employed in sailing to Van Dieman's Land.

Folios 2-4: Sick list.

Folios 5-6: Blank.

Folios 7-11: John Milden, aged 54, prisoner; case number 1; disease or hurt, intermittent fever. Put on sick list, 21 June 1850. Discharged 3 October 1850 to the Colonial Hospital at Hobart Town.

Folios 12-13: Philip Stanton, aged 42, pensioner guard; case number 2; disease or hurt, catarrh and febrile attack. Put on sick list, 8 July 1850. Discharged 5 August 1850.

Folios 13-14: Anne Leary, aged 3 months, child of guard; case number 3; disease or hurt, pulmonic disease. Put on sick list, 4 July 1850. Died 5 July 1850.

Folio 14: Joanna Keif, aged 3 months, child of guard; case number 4; disease or hurt, pulmonic disease. Put on sick list, 10 July 1850. Discharged 11 July 1850.

Folios 15-16: James King, aged 26, prisoner; case number 5; disease or hurt, dysentery. Put on sick list, 20 July 1850. Discharged 14 August 1850.

Folios 16-18: John Brown, aged 33, prisoner; case number 6; disease or hurt, palpitation of heart. Put on sick list, 31 July 1850. Discharged 22 August 1850.

Folios 18-21: Richard Mason, aged 27, prisoner; case number 7; disease or hurt, dysentery. Put on sick list, 13 August 1850. Died 29 August 1850.

Folio 21: Thomas Jackson, aged 26, prisoner; case number 8; disease or hurt, wounded lip. Put on sick list, 17 August 1850. Discharged 24 August 1850.

Folio 22: John Shiels, aged 18, boy; case number 9; disease or hurt, scrophulous ophthalmy. Put on sick list, 8 September 1850. Discharged 3 October 1850.

Folios 22-23: J Dale, aged 23, prisoner; case number 10; disease or hurt, dysentery. Put on sick list, 29 September 1850. Discharged to Colonial Hospital.

Folios 23-24: William Burridge, aged 31, prisoner; case number 11; disease or hurt, rheumatism. Put on sick list, 8 October 1850. Discharged 14 October 1850 to the Colonial Hospital.
