Description

Medical journal of HMS Renard from 12 May 1805 to 12 May 1806 by Andrew Smith, during which time the said ship was employed in the West Indies.

Folio 2: George Dickson, aged 25, landsman; sick or hurt, headache, violent griping, purging and tenesmus attended with fever; put on sick list, 27 May 1805 cruising off Jamaica. Discharged 18 June 1805 to duty. Folio 2: John Martin, aged 24, ordinary seaman; sick or hurt, pain in head, back and chest with oppression across the breast, attended with a short consumptive cough; put on sick list, 3 June 1805 cruising off Jamaica. Discharged 16 July 1805 to Port Royal Hospital.

Folio 3: John Scott, aged 22, able seaman; sick or hurt, violent griping and purging attended with tenesmus, headache, nausea and much thirst; put on sick list, 5 June 1805 cruising off Jamaica. Discharged 18 June 1805 to duty. Folio 3: Robert Reid, aged 24, ordinary seaman; sick or hurt, great pain in head, loins, limbs and across the chest; put on sick list, 5 June 1805 cruising off Jamaica. Discharged 9 July 1805 to duty.

Folio 4: William Warren, aged 50, landsman; sick or hurt, violent griping attended with loose slimy stools, pain in head and loins; put on sick list, 7 June 1805 cruising off Jamaica. Discharged 16 July 1805 to Port Royal Hospital. Folio 4: Charles Frederick, aged 28, able seaman; sick or hurt, cold shivering, headache, pain and oppression across the chest, nausea and vomiting; put on sick list, 11 June 1805 cruising off Jamaica. Died 21 June 1805.

Folio 5: Christopher Rockford, aged 30, private marine; sick or hurt, cold shivering, pain in head, back and all over his limbs with a sense of heaviness across the breast with nausea and vomiting; put on sick list, 11 June 1805 cruising off Jamaica. Discharged 16 July 1805 to duty. Folio 5: Charles Thorn, aged 24, private marine; sick or hurt, violent headache, pain in back and limbs with great oppression across the breast, nausea and vomiting; put on sick list, 11 June 1805 cruising off Jamaica. Discharged 23 June 1805 to duty.

Folio 6: Cornelius Moleneaux, aged 22, landsman; sick or hurt, severe headache, pain in the back and all over his limbs, with oppression across the throat; put on sick list, 24 August 1805 cruising near Jamaica. Discharged 24 November 1805 to Port Royal Hospital.

Folio 7: David Sitre, aged 22, supernumerary; sick or hurt, severe headache, pain in the back and all over his limbs, with oppression across the chest; put on sick list, 6 December 1805 at Port Royal Jamaica. Discharged 11 December 1805 to Port Royal Hospital. Folio 7: Alexander McLaughlan, aged 55, able seaman; sick or hurt, griping and purging, attended with a fixed pain in the right side, extending towards the left hypogastrium; put on sick list, 8 December 1805 at Port Royal Jamaica. Discharged to the Shark receiving ship as an object for survey and has been since invalided.

Discharged 26 March 1806 invalided to Port Royal. Folio 9: John Thomas, aged 20, supernumerary; sick or hurt, severe griping, purging and tenesmus; put on sick list, 20 February 1806 cruising off Jamaica. Discharged 19 March 1806 invalided to Port Royal.

Folio 10: John Thornton, aged 24, able seaman; sick or hurt, great pain along the course of the thigh particularly near the ham where there appears to be a tumour forming with other tumours on other parts of the body; put on sick list, 26 February 1806 cruising off Jamaica.
