Medical and Surgical journal of HMS Albion for 26 July 1807 to 25 July 1808 by Andrew Elphinstone, Surgeon, during which time the said ship was employed in the East Indies. (This journal is in the form of a diary with weekly reports of numbers of patients on the sick list).

Folio 1: Blank.
Folio 2: John Murray, aged 46, landsman, has a very bad ulcer on leg.
Folio 2: Samuel Nicholls, aged 43, marine, worst case of chronic flux on board.
Folio 3: On 24 September 1807 Samuel Nicholls, marine (chronic dysentery); Thomas Rippon, seaman, (ulcer on groin); John Murray, landsman, (ulcer on leg); Francis Qutto, landsman, (ulcer on leg); Thomas Evans, (ulcer on ankle) were sent to the hospital at Penang.
Folio 3: On 30 September 1807 impressed 56 men from the Indiamen, victualed on board 604 men on 1 October 1807.
Folios 3-4: Dissection of Samuel Spencer, aged 30, landsman.
Folio 4: Samuel Nicholls, marine, before mentioned died at the hospital on 7 October 1807. James Kemp, aged 45, marine died on 9 October 1807.
Folio 4: William Davis, aged 27, seaman, died from hepatic flux on 14 October 1807.
Folio 4: John Baptist, aged 30, seaman, died from chronic hepatic flux on 13 October 1807.
Folio 4: John Barclay, seaman, died 15 October 1807.
Folio 5: Thomas Rippon returned to the ship.
Folio 5: Benjamin Warde, aged 48, ship's barber, died 28 November 1807.
Folio 5: Thomas Horsenail, aged 36, marine, died 2 December 1807 from a mortified ulcer.
Folio 5: John Miles, Landsman, aged 28, died 11 December 1807.
Folio 6: On 27 December 1807 sent to Bombay hospital, William Pearce, marine (ulcer on foot); Robert Burnett with ulcerated great toe; Joseph Smith, ulcer on foot; Charles Chowan, ulcer on leg; Augustus Furniss (ulcer on ankle).
Folio 6: On 28 December 1807 sent to Bombay hospital, Dennis Smith (diseased liver); Joseph Hemson, (debility); Isaac Timber (Venereal ulcers); John Ross(ulcer on ankle); John Bones (ulcer on foot); John Bone (ulcerated great toe) and James Morrice (ulcer on ankle).
Folio 6: On 4 January 1808 sent to Bombay hospital, Thomas Edwards (chronic flux); Alexander McDonald (chronic flux); William Goodlad (chronic flux) and John Keith and George Turner with ulcers on their legs. Augustus Furniss died in hospital on 6 January 1808, and Charles Chowan (ulcer on the leg) had his leg amputated above the knee on 6 January 1808.
Folio 6: John Smith, aged 30, a black, died on 10 January 1808.
Folio 6: John Williams, aged 30, seaman, died on 14 January 1808 from bilious remittent fever.
Folio 6: John Dobbage, aged 30, landsman, died on 27 January 1808 from flux.
Folio 6: On 29 January 1808 sent to Bombay hospital, James Hunt, seaman; Robert Waddle, marine both ill with the flux.
Folio 7: Julian, a St Domingo black aged 30 was found dead in his hammock on 15 February 1808.
Folio 7: Thomas Barrett, aged 30, seaman, died 4 March 1808 from flux.
Folio 7: Clement Pippin, aged 36, died 10 March 1808 from flux.
Folio 7: Uriah Mullens, aged 34, died 16 March 1808 from hepatic flux.
Folio 7: 2 April 1808 sent to Bombay hospital, James Hunt (marine), John Allard, John Stringer with chronic flux; John Edwards with ulcer on foot and Henrick Limond with ulcerated great toe. William Goodlad sent to the hospital on 4 January 1808 died 20 March 1808, and James Hunt sent on the 29th died on 4 February 1808.
Folio 8: 6 April 1808 received on board Francis Quito. 8 April 1808, George Cath has an ulcer in a dry mortified state.
Folio 8: Joseph Dally, aged 26, had previously several attacks of a bowel complaint, the last seizure was on the 2nd instant on the 10th April before death he vomited a teres worm about nine inches long, the body was not inspected.
Folio 8: George Cath, cooper, aged 28 died of the flux.
Folio 8: William Tyson, John Napp and James Wake have very bad ulcers.
Folio 8: Informed of the deaths of James Hunt, marine, and John Allard who were sent on 2 April 1808 to hospital. Hunt died on 4 May 1808 and Allard 15 April 1808.
Folio 8: We received from the hospital on 14 April 1808 Robert Burnett, Joseph Smith and John Keefe.
Folios 8-9: On 26 May 1808 John Napp's leg was amputated below the knee. He died [6 June 1808?].
Folio 9: John Robinson has the worst ulcer on the ship.
Folio 9: 3 July 1808 sent Augustus Browne, ill of Chronic flux and John Casperie (boy) with marasmus to the hospital.
Folio 9: 4 July 1808 Thomas Davis died from a third attack of chronic flux.
Folio 9: Augustus Browne died on 9 July 1808 at the hospital.
