Medical journal of HMS Albion for 13 April 1799-2 January 1801 by J C Watson, Surgeon, during which time the said ship was employed in the North Sea Station.

Folio 1: Blank.
Folio 2: Joseph Wells, aged 22, gunner's mate; disease or hurt, affected with a little diffused cough, pain in the chest, inclined to the left side, respiration rather impeded. Put on sick list, 28 April 1799 at the Nore. Discharged 10 May 1799 to duty.
Folio 3: George Filkins, aged 21, landsman; disease or hurt, affected with large excrescencies about the glans penis and prepuce they proceed from a previous gonorrhoea which he contracted six months back. Put on sick list, 29 April 1799 at the Great Nore. Discharged 19 May 1799 to duty.
Folios 3-4: John Barleymoore, aged 26, private, marine; disease or hurt, a violent pain in the right side, legs and ankles rather swelled slight pain in his left shoulder and [?], great thirst, skin hot and rather moist. Put on sick list, 2 May 1799 at the Great Nore. Discharged 10 May 1799 to the Spanker hospital ship.
Folio 5: James Darlling, aged 22, able seaman; disease or hurt, is affected with chancres on the glans penis. Put on sick list, 1 July 1799 at the Great Nore. Discharged 17 July 1799 to duty.
Folio 5: Michael McGinnis, aged 23, able seaman; disease or hurt, bubo and venereal. Put on sick list, 26 September 1799 at Leith Roads. Discharged [?].
Folio 5: William Hemsy, aged 19, ordinary seaman; disease or hurt, bubo and venereal. Put on sick list, 28 September 1799 at Leith Roads. Discharged [?].
Folio 5: David Legg, aged 28, landsman; disease or hurt, bubo and venereal. Put on sick list, 3 January 1800 at Leith Roads. Discharged [?].
Folio 5: Mr Lambert, aged 24, captain's clerk; disease or hurt, bubo and venereal. Put on sick list, 6 February 1800 at Leith Roads. Discharged [?].
Folio 6: Joseph Daykers, aged 36, tailor; disease or hurt, cold shivering succeeded by a great heat and fever, pulse small and quick, pain in the back and head, urine turbed with a copious sediment of a lacteritious colour, also a little cough and nausea. Put on sick list, 28 November 1799 at the Flemish Roads, Sweden. Discharged 14 December 1799.
Folio 7: William Markham, aged 22; disease or hurt, acute pain in the chest inclined to the right side, a frequent dry cough, breathing short and rather difficult. Put on sick list, 31 March 1800 at Leith Roads. Died 7 April 1800, Long Hope Bay, Orkney Islands.
Folio 8: Mr Willins, master; disease or hurt, a dull pain of the head accompanied with a continual drowsiness, a little soreness of the throat and discharge from the nose and eyes which are a little inflamed. He complains of sometimes being very hot afterwards cold. Put on sick list, 19 April 1800 at Long Hope Bay, Orkney Islands. Discharged 26 April 1800 to duty.
Folio 8: Mention is also made to Thomas Tifney, marine, aged 25; Joseph Bayley, marine, aged 27; Thomas Try, aged 24, armourer; Mr Watson, midshipman; John Fletcher, aged 21, ordinary seaman all taken ill during 23 April to 1 May 1800.
Folios 9-10: Thomas Purvis, aged 24, boatswain's mate; disease or hurt, a violent lancing pain of his head, cold shivering afterwards, great heat likewise acute pain and numbness of his shoulders, elbow and knees so violent that he is not able to be moved. Put on sick list, 30 June 1800. Discharged 12 July 1800 to the Royal Hospital Edinburgh.
Folios 11-13: Thomas Linnian, aged 32, private, marine; disease or hurt, of a scrophulous habit, complains of a very violent heat up the urethra whenemitting urine likewise has a discharge of a thin and yellow coloured matter from the penis. Put on sick list, 18 October 1800. Discharged 23 November 1800 to the Spanker hospital.

Folio 13: Surgeon's general remarks. Lieutenant William Corkell was sent to sick quarters on 22 September 1800 in consequence of having a compound rupture he has been ruptured for some time but within these few weeks it was so troublesome that he could not exert himself to perform his duty. ].
