Description

Medical and surgical journal of His Majesty's convict ship Camden for 26 February-25 July 1831 by David Boyter, Surgeon, during which time the said ship was employed in the conveyance of convicts to New South Wales.

[Note: ADM 101/15/6, 6A-6B are produced as a single document: order as ADM 101/15/6].

Folios 1-2: J Reynolds, aged 24, convict; case number 1; disease or hurt, haemoptysis. Put on sick list, 2 April 1831 at sea. Discharged 17 April 1831 cured.

Folios 2-3: James Sedden, aged 22, convict; case number 2; disease or hurt, synocha. Put on sick list, 4 April 1831 at sea. Discharged 17 April 1831 cured.

Folio 3: James Fulcher, aged 23, convict; case number 3; disease or hurt, synocha. Put on sick list, 12 April 1831 at sea. Discharged 26 April 1831 cured.

Folios 3-5: James Hassel, aged 24, convict; case number 4; disease or hurt, synocha. Put on sick list, 15 April 1831 at sea. Discharged [?].

Folio 5: J Taylor, aged 22, 11th Dragoons; case number 5; disease or hurt, synocha. Put on sick list, 1 May 1831 at sea. Discharged 14 May 1831 cured.

Folio 6: James Hunt, aged 22, 11th Dragoons; case number 6; disease or hurt, dysentery. Put on sick list, 5 May 1831 at sea. Discharged 11 May 1831 to duty.

Folios 6-7: Jane Nicholson, aged 24, wife of Sergeant Nicholson of11th Dragoons; case number 7; disease or hurt, dyspepsia. Put on sick list, 22 May 1831 at sea. Discharged 25 May 1831 convalescent.

Folio 7: H Talbot, aged 25, convict; case number 8; disease or hurt, dysentery. Put on sick list, 17 June 1831. Discharged 30 June 1831 cured.

Folio 8: James Starkey, aged 22, convict; case number 9; disease or hurt, phthisis confirma. Put on sick list, 28 May 1831. Discharged 26 June 1831 to hospital.

Folios 8-9: Simon Mckenzie, aged 19, convict; case number 10; disease or hurt, synocha. Put on sick list, 5 July 1831. Discharged 24 July 1831 well.

Folios 10-11: Henry Longfield, aged 42, convict; case number 11; disease or hurt, scorbutus. Put on sick list, 19 July 1831. Discharged [?]. olio 11: A nosological synopsis of the sick book.

Folio 12: A list of men who have received wounds or hurts, during the period of the journal. [No names recorded].

Folios 12-13: Surgeon's general remarks. The Guard consisted of 29 men from the 11th Dragoons. The 198 convicts were received from four different ships. The party from the Cumberland had the appearance of being less attended to than those of the other hulks, a great many of the Cumberlands had large ulcers on their legs, three of them so large and apparently of that long standing and character that I felt bound to reject them.
