Description (What the record is about)
- This dataset comprises data which was input to the Metropolitan Police's Crime Statistics System between April 1992 and March 1993. They include details of offences, arrests, victims of crime, property stolen and reports classified as"No Crime" (defined as"an allegation where the evidence is insufficient to establish that a crime has been committed"). The main difference between this dataset and its predecessors is its chronological coverage. The three preceding datasets follow a calendar year pattern, i.e. they include data input to the system between January and December of the year in question. By contrast, this dataset appears to follow a financial year, in that it includes records of offences, arrests and"no crimes" input between April 1992 and March 1993. As in the preceding datasets, in some cases the entry in the Offence-Year-Input field in the YTDEXTRACT93 table predates April 1992 if the record relates to an arrest which was input between April 1992 and March 1993. Equally, many records relate to offences, arrests or"no crimes" which were originally reported at a much earlier period than the date when the record was input: e.g. the earliest records in the Offence-Date-YY field in the YTDEXTRACT93 table (if one excludes what are thought to be missing or invalid values) appear to relate to offences which were reported in 1976. The time period covered by this dataset suggests that there should be a considerable overlap with the calendar year dataset for 1992 (MEPO 36/3). This dataset consists of two tables: YTDNOCREXT93 (containing data relating to allegations classed as"No Crime"), and YTDEXTRACT93 (containing all other data input to the database, i.e. details of offences, arrests, victims and stolen property).
