Folio 1: Preliminary remarks: The surgeon of HMS Maidstone on joining the ship on 19 November 1811 had not received the full supply of medicines and necessaries to 'afford any effectual assistance to the occasional indispositions, which did not fail to present themselves'. The surgeon of the Royal Dockyard at Deptford undertook the medical duties in the meantime.
